Elements

An element is one thing that happens in a cue: a sound, a video, a light look, a MIDI message. Add it with + Element, by right-clicking the timeline or by dragging a file. Every element has a start (seconds from the start of its cue) and a duration.

Video and images

Element What it's for
Video A video file on the virtual stage: backdrops, films, animations. It can loop, hold its last frame and carry its own sound.
Image A photo, a drawing, a PDF page, an animated GIF.
Text Titles, name captions, signs, countdowns, clocks. Font, colour, outline, shadow, background.
Generator Images made by Regia without files: solid colour, gradients, fog noise, stripes, grid, checkerboard, colour bars, starry sky, fire, water.
Camera or screen What a webcam or capture card sees, or a screen or window of the computer (a presentation, a browser).

Everything visual goes onto the virtual stage and from there to the projectors.

Sound

Element What it's for
Sound Music, effects, recorded voices. Volume, pan, loops, speed, EQ, reverb, delay, compressor, spatial position between speakers.
Microphone or line in A microphone, or an input of your audio interface, sent to the track and its output, with fades: announcements from the booth, a live voice-over, an instrument.

Details in Audio.

Lights

Element What it's for
Light look A lighting state: which fixtures, at what intensity, which colour, where they point. It stays until another look on the same track changes it.
Light effect Automatic movement: breathe, wave, chase, rainbow, blink, strobe, sparkle, fire, candle, TV, lightning, police lights, circle, figure eight, or your own.
Light chase A series of looks that cycle, even in time with the music.
Reactive lights Lights follow the volume of the music, or take their colours from the video.

All about lighting in Lights.

Commands

Element What it's for
MIDI message Note on and off, control change, program change, pitch bend, SysEx, MIDI Show Control, raw bytes. For digital mixers, lighting consoles, keyboards, other software.
MIDI file Plays a .mid file to a MIDI output: backing tracks, sequences for external instruments.
OSC message An OSC command to mixers, QLab, Resolume, TouchOSC and other networked software.
Network command Text or bytes over TCP or UDP, or an HTTP request, to any networked device.
Projector (PJLink) Powers a networked projector on and off, closes and opens the shutter, switches input, freezes the image.
OBS Switches scene, starts or stops recording and streaming, toggles a source in OBS Studio.
Wake computer (WOL) Remotely powers on a computer or projector that supports Wake-on-LAN.
Timecode Sends LTC from an audio output or MTC from a MIDI output, to keep other devices in sync with the show.
Action Controls Regia itself: stop or fade an element or a cue, pause, devamp, jump to another cue, fire a cue, lights blackout, grand master, tempo, black on a video output, surtitles.
Memo A note that appears in the booth (and, if you want, large on the phones too): “check that mic 3 is on”.
Cue light Lights up the crew phones: yellow for standby, green for go, with a message.

How long an element lasts

In the inspector, under Length, choose:

  • File length: as long as the sound or video (times the loops).
  • Fixed: the seconds you type. For images, text, generators, looks.
  • Open: stays until another element on the same track replaces it, or until you stop it.
  • Until a cue: keeps going through the following cues and ends when the cue you choose starts (plus a few seconds if you like), with its fade. If that cue comes late, the element waits. The right way for music that must cover three scenes and close with the fourth.

Start and testing

  • Start: seconds from the start of the cue. Dragging the element on the timeline changes this number.
  • Enabled: when off, the show skips the element (it stays on the timeline, dashed).
  • Try from here fires its cue from the point where the element begins, together with what is around it. The square button next to it stops the element.

To change several elements at once, select them all: the inspector shows Change all at once. See The inspector.
