Your phone as a remote

Every connected phone (or tablet) becomes a Regia remote: GO, cart, faders, mapping from the stage, rig check, surtitles, cue lights for the crew, notes for the booth. Nothing to install: the phone opens a web page.

The link goes through the internet. It works even if the phone uses mobile data instead of the venue wifi, and even if the booth computer and the phone are on different networks.

Connecting a phone

  1. On the computer open Connections › Phone and press Connect phones.
  2. On the phone, scan the QR code with the camera: the remote opens. The first time, type your name (“Marco, sound”) and press Join; after that it joins by itself. With the QR code no approval is needed.
  3. Or, on the phone, open regia.hopholm.com/t, type your name and the 6-digit code. The code is valid for 10 minutes; phones joining with the code appear on the computer under Waiting to join and need approval with Let in.
  4. The booth sees who is connected, with the name typed on each phone.

The QR code stays valid for the whole show. To stop it working (you showed it to too many people), press New QR: phones already connected stay. New code creates a fresh code; Disconnect closes the link for everyone.

At the top, next to the Edit / Show switch, the phone icon shows how many phones are connected and a yellow dot when someone is waiting to join.

Roles

In the Phones list, give each phone a role:

Role What it can do
Operator Everything: GO, stop, panic, pause, cues, buttons, faders, mapping, surtitles, tap tempo.
Cart Cart buttons and faders. For whoever fires effects from the wings.
Crew Cue light and notes. For stagehands, followspots, props.
View only Watches the show status and sends notes.

The button with the crossed-out person disconnects that phone.

What the phone shows

At the top the phone shows the standby cue, with its notes, and the countdown for cues that start by themselves. Below, depending on the role:

  • a big GO, Prev and Next to move the standby, Stop and Panic;
  • Buttons: the cart cues and the extra buttons created in the booth;
  • Faders: grand master, light faders, audio track volumes;
  • Map: adjusting video surface corners while watching the projection;
  • More: rig check, notes for the booth, crew station.

The phone screen stays on while the page is open. If the network drops, the phone reconnects by itself.

Mapping from the stage

In the Map tab pick the output, the surface and the corner (top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left), then drag your finger in the pad while watching the projection. Fine and Coarse change the sensitivity; the arrows nudge. You fix the mapping standing in front of the screen instead of running back and forth to the booth.

Rig check

In More › Lights, hold a fixture: it comes on at full while your finger stays down. To check focus and lamps from the stage.

Notes for the booth

Anyone connected can send a note (“mic 2 is feeding back”). The note lands in Notes › Rehearsal notes with the time and the standby cue, and in Connections › Phone under Notes from phones.

Cue lights and stations

Cue lights replace the cue-light bulbs of theatres:

  1. In Connections › Phone › Crew stations create the stations: “Stagehands”, “Followspots”, “Sound”.
  2. Whoever holds a phone with the Crew role picks their station.
  3. On the timeline add a Cue light element: Standby turns the chosen stations' phones yellow, with the message (“fly out the backdrop”); GO turns them green; Off clears them.
  4. The person tapping the screen acknowledges: the booth sees the confirmation.

Phone buttons

In Phone buttons add extra buttons for the phones: an action (GO, stop, panic, pause, fire a cue, blackout, surtitles, tap tempo…) or a Fader (grand master, a light fader, an audio track volume). Each button has a name and a colour. Cart cues appear by themselves.

Tip: for whoever follows the show from the wings with the script, a phone in View only always shows the standby cue and its notes.
