Files and formats
Regia reads almost every file a show needs. Whatever the browser cannot play, Regia converts by itself, on your computer: your files never go to a server.
Importing
- Drag files into the window: onto the timeline (they become elements where you drop them), onto the cue list (they join a cue, or each file becomes a new cue) or onto the Media library (they wait there, ready to use).
- Press Import in the Media library and pick the files.
- You can drag whole folders too, subfolders included. Regia imports the files in name order (01, 02, 10…) and remembers the folder each one came from, which you can search in the library.
While importing you see each file's stages: reading, converting, saving, analysing. A file that cannot be opened shows the reason.

Conversion
Chrome and Edge play WAV, MP3, AAC, OGG, FLAC, MP4 (H.264), WebM and the common image formats on their own. For other formats Regia converts the file into one the browser reads, keeping the quality:
- audio becomes FLAC, lossless (AIFF becomes WAV, without the converter);
- video becomes high-quality MP4 H.264, with AAC audio;
- images become PNG.
The first time it's needed, Regia downloads the converter (about 30 MB): you need a connection. After that it stays in the browser. Converting a long video takes a few minutes: you can keep working meanwhile. The show then uses the converted version, marked “converted” in the library.
Tip: for long or heavy videos (4K, ProRes), convert them first to MP4 H.264 with a tool like HandBrake or Shutter Encoder. Importing is instant and playback lighter.
The Media library
On the left, in the Media tab, you find all the show's files:
- the All, Video, Audio, Images and Other (fonts and MIDI) filters, and search by name or folder;
- for each file its length, size, channels and the “converted” or “unused” labels;
- the headphones button, on sounds and on videos with audio, to pre-listen without the audience hearing it (see Audio);
- drag a file onto the timeline or the cue list to use it;
- right-click: New cue with this file, Add to the selected cue, Remove from show.
At the bottom you read how many files there are and their total size.
Sound analysis
On import Regia draws the waveform and measures the perceived loudness (in LUFS). In a sound's inspector the Even loudness button sets the element's volume to reach −16 LUFS, so music and effects from different sources play at the same level.
Missing files
If you open the show on a computer where some files are missing (for example after copying only the online structure), the element's inspector flags it in red. Open the pre-show check: on the missing files line press Relink and pick the files from disk. Regia recognises them by content or name and puts them back in place.
Files that are not media
Some files do something else when imported:
