Getting started
Regia runs the lights, sound, video and commands of a show from one computer. It works in the browser: nothing to install, and after the first sign-in it works offline too.
What you need
- A Windows or Mac computer with an up-to-date Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. These browsers talk to audio interfaces, USB ports, MIDI and extra screens. Safari and Firefox open Regia, but without every connection.
- A Google account to sign in.
- To go live with projectors, DMX lights, external audio interfaces, MIDI, OSC and phones you need a Regia Pro subscription. Without one you can build everything and preview it: see Account and subscription.
Signing in
- Open regia.hopholm.com and press Open Regia.
- Press Continue with Google and pick your account. No new password.
- The first time, the Overview appears: seven screens that explain the idea in a minute. Press Skip to close it, and reopen it any time from the logo menu › Quick overview.
Tip: in Chrome or Edge you can install Regia as an app with the install icon in the address bar. It opens in its own window, with its own icon in the taskbar or Dock.
Your shows
After signing in you see the shows saved on this computer. From here you can:
- create the Sample show, “Storm night”: sounds, video, lights and commands ready to go. Open it and press GO, it's the fastest way to understand Regia;
- create a New show from a template (Blank, Theatre, Concert, Dance recital, Installation, Conference);
- Import a
.regiafile from another computer.
The screen
From top to bottom:
- Top bar: the show menu (the logo), the show name, the nine workspaces (Timeline, Lights, Video, Audio, Connections, Surtitles, Script, Notes, Settings), undo and redo, the save status, the guide for the current workspace, screen brightness, connected phones, the Edit / Show switch and your account.
- Transport bar: the GO button, the Standby cue with its notes, the Next cue, arrows to move the standby, Pause, Stop, Panic, the clock, the time since the first GO and the audio output levels.
- Left: the Cues list, the show Media and the Cart (cues you fire when needed).
- Centre: the workspace you picked. The Timeline shows the show like a video editor.
- Right, in the Timeline: the Inspector for whatever you select. Ctrl+I opens and closes it.
- Bottom: the Running strip, with everything playing or on screen and the time left for each item.
Edit and Show
In Edit you change everything. In Show the screen gets simpler (big cue list, cart, GO) and a wrong click moves nothing. Switch with the button at the top right or with Ctrl+M. See Going live.
Saving
Regia saves on the computer at every change: hover the cloud icon at the top to see the time of the last save. Every 5 minutes it also keeps a backup copy you can restore. Files (audio, video, images) stay in this computer's browser: to take them to another computer you export the show as a .regia file, as Shows and .regia files explains.
Offline
After the first sign-in Regia opens without internet too: shows, files, outputs and lights live on the computer. You only need a connection for the phone remote, the online backup and the fixture library. Your subscription stays valid offline for 14 days after the last check.
What next?
- Open the sample show, press GO and watch the timeline.
- Read The timeline and Cues, cue list and GO: everything else builds on these two ideas.
- Press F1 in any workspace to open its guide chapter.
